Our Story
Bright Eyes...Not Only Rich In Flavor but Rich in Heritage!
Where did the name "Bright Eyes" come from most people ask...
Well I'll tell you a short version of a long story.
In 1994 our oldest sister Deborah (Bright Eyes) was diagnosed with Aggressive Breast Cancer at the age of 34. She had 3 young children at the time; later leaving my older sister Sharon and her Husband Stanley to become instant caregivers. Deborah went through surgery to have her breast removed and underwent chemotherapy. At this time she became very weak and eventually needed to move back home to her family in VA. Doctors gave us the news in 1994 that Deborah would only have a few days to live but what they didn't know that Jesus had the last say over her life. With treatment, love and a lot of Prayer, she became better.
On February 22, 1999, a Sunday afternoon, our entire family gathered at the hospital to see Deborah. As she sat in the recliner in her room she began looking all around as if she was taking pictures of us. She explained to us that day that she was gonna "die tonight" and that God had come to her the night before and told her he was coming back for her but he wanted her to tell us first so "she did." I remember her telling me, "Sis you gonna stay tonight" and boyyy was I scared! I began to sing an old church song. I don't really know the name of it, but it was The Woman with an issue of blood whom had touched the Hem of Jesus' Garment and was healed instantly. I sang my heart out to my sister because I knew what she had just told everyone, "I'm gonna die tonight."
Her eyes were soooo Bright that day as if she was READY; she was smiling so much. We left the hospital that night and other family stayed with her. But as soon as we got home we got "The Call" to come back to hospital as she was gone....Ohhhh myyyy God! When we arrived, she was still in that recliner, her eyes were wide open and a smile on her face. Lord her eyes were Brighter than the Sun and oh so Beautiful! The only thing that hurt with that view, was knowing our sister was gone. I remember crying and saying no more pain, no more suffering my sister.
Rest in Peace Deborah "Bright Eyes" Clayton. We all know, a family that Prays together, stays together. You are gone but NEVER forgotten.
